Join our trails in the Dales

Children of all ages are invited to go wild in Lathkill Dale National Nature Reserve on Thursday 5 August in a series of exciting trails, such as a string trail and a blindfolded rope trail, as Natural England repeats its popular “Lathkilltrail” event for the summer.

Families will use maps and other clues to follow a range of short trails including an “un-nature trail”, “microtrails” using magnifying glasses and a naturally themed treasure hunt. Natural England staff and volunteers will be on hand to help.

The day will run from 11am to 4pm, with families welcome to drop in at any point during the day and spend anything between 15 minutes and an hour exploring the area. All activities are free and there is no need to pre-book.

The event will be based by the main track through Lathkilldale between Mandale Mine and Bateman’s House. To reach this, turn right out of Over Haddon car park and follow the road downhill. Before the river, turn right through the reserve entrance and follow the main track for about quarter of a mile to where the event base will be clearly visible.

“Lathkilltrail” is one of the first of Natural England’s “Let’s Go Wild” events to take place at the reserve during the year, as it celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity.
