The Manor House was built for Ralph Burton, Lord of the Manor, at the turn of the 18th century. In 1939 the building was presented to Dronfield District Council for use as council offices. In 1967 it became a focal point of community life in Dronfield when the library was opened there. Little of the original interior decoration remains.

Dronfield's War Memorial is now situated in the grounds in front of the building.
