Below is an e-mail we received at Dronfield Online over the weekend from Alex Sutherland, coach to the Nethergreen U'14s Football Club:
"Last Sunday, the under 14 football team that I coach, Nether Green (we won the league this year) came up against AFC Dronfield in the final of the trophy. We lost 1-0.
I wanted to tell your readers what a great Club you have there and what a tremendous bunch of players, coaches and families.
The game itself wasn't what we were used to, the full-size pitch may have caused us some trouble, we play on a much smaller pitch usually, but the 3 games we've had this season with AFCD have been excellent.
You have a great footballing side there and we knew we'd have to be at our best to beat them. We couldn't quite manage that, but the important point I wanted to make to the people of Dronfield is what a credit those boys are to you. Their families should be proud of them and 'Plim" (Steve Walker), the Coach, is such a great guy it took away some of my disappointment at the result.
It's been a terrific season at under 14 level and winning the League ahead of AFCD and Eckington, both of which clubs were brilliant and a real pleasure to play, with great players, brilliant coaches and supporters just showed how excellent junior football can be when it all comes together in the right spirit.
Thanks Plim, thanks AFC boys, you are a real credit to your families. We really do look forward to our games next season with you in the higher league."
