About the Helpline
The NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) is the UK's leading charity specialising in child protection and the prevention of cruelty to children. We have been directly involved in protecting children and campaigning on their behalf since 1884.
Our work to end cruelty to children includes:
180 community-based
teams and projects
throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
A free, 24-hour
Child Protection Helpline
that provides information, advice and counselling to anyone concerned about a child's safety. We also run a bilingual Welsh helpline, an Asian helpline in five Asian languages, and a textphone service for people who are deaf or hard of hearing.
Public education campaigns
, to increase understanding about child abuse and provide advice and support on positive parenting.
Parliamentary campaigning
to persuade government, Parliament and opinion-formers to put children's issues at the top of the political agenda.
Child protection training and advice
for organisations involved in the care, protection and education of children. For example, local and health authorities, sports bodies and young people's groups.
Research
into the nature and effects of child abuse.
Information resources
on child protection and related topics for professionals, the press and the general public.
Fundraising through individual and corporate supporters
, which provides 85% of the money needed to pay for our work to end cruelty to children.
