Details
Recent licensees "Master Chef" James Lewis and his wife Emma, have big plans for the Horse & Jockey and intend it to become the center of the village community at Unstone.  Being very family orientated with 5 young boys, they understand perfectly the need for community spirit and the importance of working together to support the local school.

There are two bars at the Horse & Jockey, one of which is a lounge / restaurant bar mainly used for serving food, but which then becomes the stage for regular live entertainment on a Saturday night - check the events page to find out whos on and when. The second bar is more of a games room with pool table and darts plus a large screen TV with Setanta sports, and on which you can play Wii games.  You will regularly find details of the next Wii tournament, which is popular with the locals and a great way of raising money with which James and Emma wish to support the local schools.  Not forgetting the kids, there are old fashioned sweetie dispensers too!

Outside there is a huge beer garden and children's play area which is a wonderful surprise to newcomers as it is practically unseen from the main road, and provides spectacular, breathtaking views over the Drone valley.

There are many reasons to visit the Horse & Jockey.  Monday night is Curry Night with curry and a pint for just £4.  There is a senior citizens discount available in the restaurant which is proving to be very popular - if you don't wish to eat in the restaurant, then there is a choice of excellent value basket bar meals available between £3 and £4. Bingo, 3 a Side football tournaments involving adults and kids alike, and of course live music.

In addition to all this they have a Fish & Chip menu with delivery to Unstone village and coming soon an Indian takeaway menu.  With popular consent from the community, James and Emma have applied to open a village shop at the Horse and Jockey as well - watch the news space for the progress on this exciting venture.

The Horse and Jockey also cater for Weddings, Anniversaries and Birthdays.  Nothing is too much trouble, and everyone is welcome.

There are exciting plans to host the Unstone Festival on September 13th to raise money for the schools - Unstone Junior and St Mary's Infant school, with the emphasis very much being on old fashioned village spirit - there will be events such as a companion dog show, small funfair rides, crockery smashing, a fun run, stalls of local home produce, pony and cart rides, tombola, a miniature railway and bar-b-que - and no festival would be complete without live music to round off the day with local rock band Freefold playing from a trailer.  Keep an eye on the Whats on Guide for further details.

With all of the above and more to come, it looks like exciting times ahead for Unstone - next time you're passing call in - you'll be assured of a friendly smile and warm welcome from all.
