Businessman and owner of Farmhouse Pantry, Richard is a third generation farmer from Eastmoor near Chesterfield. After gaining a Degree in Agriculture and Land & Farm Management in 2002, Richard tried his hand at diversifying the farming business, just like so many other farmers were doing as a result of the dairy farming industry being in such a poor state. Based on a university project he had written some years earlier, he decided to try his hand at farming water buffalo and sold the meat at local farmers markets and other outlets. His herd is now 300 strong and an extremely popular meat. When the old butchers premises became available in Dronfield Woodhouse, Richard seized the opportunity and firmly established his Farm Shop.

The business is handled by Richard's sister, Lisa and her husband Ian. Lisa takes care of the day day running of the shop, and ensures that things run smoothly and customer needs are met, whilst Ian is the master butcher, having gained his training at other high class butcheries and farm shops such as Chatsworth. He makes sure that whatever you buy is of the utmost quality and is constantly searching for innovative recipes and ideas. Two other butchers make up the team, Philip and Derren, who help out with everything from boning out carcasses, cooking, counter work and customer service.

Wherever possible local suppliers and farmers are used, and importantly all of the produce sold is 100% traceable. The beef and water buffalo is reared on the family farm and all hung for a minimum of three weeks to ensure perfect texture and flavour.

The farm is fully certified as organic by Organic Farmers and Growers, as well as running organic and higher level stewardship on the land. Richard is extremely proud to have been awarded the environmental quality mark, and is currently involved in a lapwing generation programme. There is an enormous range of raw and cooked meats, bar-b-que meats and also a specialist cheese section. For the more exotic pallet, there is homed farmed water buffalo, rabbit, crocodile, kangaroo, partridge, and a menagerie of other exciting and delicious produce. Hampers are available to order and wholesale catering is welcomed.

The Farmhouse Pantry team also cater for gluten free allergy sufferers, and stock some organic and also seasonal produce. On the off chance that they do not stock what you want, they guarantee to get it for you, whether it be a rare breed, a new style cut of meat, or even some of the old fashioned foods such as brine, braun, tripe, tongue etc!

Pies & Pastries
There is a fantastic range of home-made pies and pastries available daily, including steak & stilton pie, chicken & mushroom pie, cornish pasties, pound in weight speciality pork pies, apple & blackberry pie, broccoli & stilton quiche, and homity pie - a tasty blend of vegetables, cheese, potatoes, garlic and parsley in a pastry case.

Speciality Cheese
Mouthwatering cheeses include Monteray Jack, Wensleydale with Blueberries, and Inkeepers Choice which is chedder packed with pickled onions and chives as well as a spectacle of other wild and exotic flavours.

Deli Section
Wonderful feta stuffed peppers, green olives with fresh chillis, black olives with wild fennel and garlic, salamis, cous cous, home-made coleslaw and sandwiches.

Cakes
Tasty home baked carrot cake, angel cake, marzipan tart, and double chocolate gateau to name but a few, as well as Derbyshire's acclaimed bakewell pudding.

The range includes Thai Green Chicken Curry, Carribbean Pork Steaks, Italian Tomato Meatballs, Beef Stroganoff, and Sweet Chilli & Pineapple Gammon - to tickle your tastebuds - visit the counter for more.

To top it off, locally made hanging and free standing bird tables are available for garden bird lovers.
