Whoever said that exercise is hard work and tiring has obviously not yet had the pleasure of attending one of Vicky Bullen's Exercise to Music classes!

A fully qualified fitness instructor with over 25 years' experience of running exercise classes in and around Dronfield, including working at The Dronfield Sports Centre until August 2007, Vicky's classes are nothing short of fun.

The immediate feeling when arriving to a class is one of being welcomed to a social gathering. Friendly banter is apparent amongst a wide age range of people from young teenagers to the over 60s!

Vicky's philosophy on exercise is that it doesn't have to be a chore, it should be seen more of an opportunity to socialise with friends and to feel free to work at your own pace.  We are constantly reminded by the media that the key to a healthy lifestyle is sensible eating and regular exercise - and it is absolutely true.  More importantly, almost anyone can do some form of exercise, whether it be a full on high-impact aerobics class, or a gentle chair based exercise class for the less mobile.  Exercise is a real tonic, which releases endorphins into the body which gives us a feeling of general well-being and lifts the mood.

There are classes available pretty much on a daily basis spread around the Dronfield area, such as The Gladys Buxton Centre on Oakhill Road, The Parish Hall on Church Street, at The Akademy on Callywhite Lane, and in the dining hall of the Dronfield Henry Fanshawe School.  See schedule below for full details of times, venues and prices.

I was invited to a Tuesday morning circuit training class at the Parish Hall to take photos for this page and was greeted by two chaps on a 2 minute jogging exercise in the foyer - they helped me in with my equipment (and a pram - yes I had my baby daughter with me!) and a joke about jogging with the baby!  The immediate sense I got was a buzz in the air from the people in the room as they participated in their designated 2 minute exercise tasks - from jogging, to skipping, to trampolining (yes trampolining!), to twisting etc - working in pairs, there was a wide range of effort being put in from those who were putting in maximum effort to others who were ambling along and regaling stories to each other whilst moving.  But that's the point - everyone is invited to move at their own pace.  For each designated exercise Vicky offers a harder or easier alternative to suit.

There are specific classes available for the over 50s and chair based exercises; however the low impact and high impact classes and circuit training classes are available to every age group and attract people from early teens to sixty plus.

You don't have to book - just turn up and join in.  There are only 3 requirements:

** Wear loose clothing and suitable footwear.

** Bring a drink of water.

** Have lots of fun and feel the benefit.
