Dronfield's Maggie Nunn Set for Kathmandu on Missionary Work

Dronfield's Maggie Nunn Set for Kathmandu on Missionary Work
Next Easter 2010 a large group made up of members of Dronfield's St Andrew's Community Church, and pupils from two schools: Birkdale School, Sheffield and the Bournemouth Collegiate School, Poole, Dorset, are going to Nepal for two weeks.  They will be supporting some of the new and growing Christian churches in the country including one in a leprosy colony, and also teaching in some of the poorer schools on the edge of the Kathmandu Valley.

One of the group is Maggie Nunn who has organised a fund raising concert on Friday, 16th October called the 'One Off Show' at the Dronfield Civic Hall.  The evening will include performances from some of our very best local talent including 'The Twins', accompanied by Glyn Madden, singer/songwriters Ian Price and Steve Littlewood, young John Saxton and a play called "Dinner for One".

Since 2000, pupils from Birkdale School in Sheffield - under the leadership of Keith Brook (from Dronfield Woodhouse) - have been regularly travelling out to a particularly poor part of the Kathmandu Valley called Khokana, where they have been supporting the children from both the local village and a nearby leprosy colony.  They have raised money to build a school called the Peace Garden School, and many of the group will be going out to teach in the school, as well as take some of the well needed funds to purchase equipment etc.

Jonathan Haigh, minister of the St Andrew's Church will be leading a group who will be visiting the school, and will also be visiting local churches to worship with them and encourage them as they struggle against growing opposition.  This will include spending time in the leprosy colony; a church that St Andrew's Community Church has been supporting for several years.  Jonathan says, "The plan is four our group to join the members of the leprosy colony in their Easter Sunday service where I am looking forward to giving them the Easter message.

The 'One-Off Show' starts at 7.30 pm and anyone who attends will be guaranteed an entertaining evening.

The cost is £10.00 per ticket and includes either a glass of wine or a soft drink.

Tickets are available from Peter & Jill Haywood (01246 416505), or from Nunn Office Supplies (01246 415000).
