About Dronfield Town Council
Dronfield Town Council came into existence on 1st April 1974 as successor authority to the former Dronfield Urban District Council. The Town Council's offices were originally located at 25 High Street, a listed building near the Peel Monument.
The Town Council's present offices are located at Civic Hall, Civic Centre, Dronfield. The offices were officially opened on 14th December 1999.
The Town Council's responsibilities include parks and open spaces, sports facilities, public halls, allotments and a community bus.
Significant improvements were made to the all-weather, floodlit, multi-games area during 1995. Play areas in various locations in the town have been upgraded and safety surfaces installed in recent years.
The four allotment sites in the town (Chiverton, Coal Aston, Farwater Lane and Snape Hill) provide some 130 plots. The rents are very reasonable. The Dronfield Horticultural Society on behalf of the Town Council manages the allotments: all lettings are the responsibility of the Society, and all enquiries should be directed to the Chairman of the Society (Tel: 01246 290574). The Town Council funds capital works on the allotments.
The Peel Centre (a former Methodist Church owned by a charitable trust and now run as a community centre) has several rooms for hire. The Town Council administers bookings.
The Town Council owns the Civic Hall and bookings are taken for the main hall, the Shaun Hadley Meeting Room and the Council Chamber. The Town Council also lets the Gosforth Lodge, Cliffe Park on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and the newly built Coal Aston Village Hall.
Meetings of the Town Council are held every month at the Civic Hall. The Annual Meeting of the Town Council and the Annual Town Meeting are held on the second Monday in May at the Civic Hall.
