About the Society
Dronfield Players is a local Amateur Dramatic Society established in 1943, and since that time has presented either two or three full length plays every year initially in the County School Hall in School Lane but since the first Dronfield Civic Hall was built in 1970 all shows have been held there except for the short period when the new Civic Hall was being built when we had to move to the Gladys Buxton Centre.
The Society presents all types of plays, comedy, farce, thrillers and costume dramas by both modern and established authors from Ray Cooney and Alan Ayckbourn to JB Priestley. (We do not stage musicals - we leave that to Dronfield Light Opera Group)
Membership is open to anyone who fancies 'treading the boards' or alternatively can offer their skills at either set building, lighting, special effects, props, decor or even helping out front of house on show nights. In fact anyone with an interest in Amateur Theatre is made most welcome and for first timers there are plenty of old hands around to show you the ropes.
As well as putting on plays the Society has a very active social life with parties, trips, walks, theatre visits and many more things to keep members interested if they are not involved with a specific production.
Rehearsals are held on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings from 7.30pm to 10.00pm at the Gladys Buxton Centre on Oakhill Road Dronfield and anyone can just drop in any time.
Our Chairman and Hon Secretary are a husband and wife partnership, John and Alison Pashley and they can be contacted on 0114 2891626
