About Dronfield Christian Aid Christian Aid works to fight poverty overseas. It has found that people's lives improve most when they decide for themselves what changes are needed. Christian Aid works in partnership with local organisations in the Third World - groups of people who are extremely poor, or are being exploited by others. These groups do not have to be Christian, they may be another religion, such as Hindu, Muslim, Buddist, or have no religion at all.
Groups overseas who want help to improve their community approach Christian Aid with 1) a description of the work that needs doing, 2) how it will be done, and 3)how much money it will cost. Christian Aid decides whether to give money and support the project. Christian Aid's programme officer and local experts, together, monitor the project's work.
The Dronfield Christian Aid Committee organises events throughout the year to raise awareness of the problems of the Third World and also to raise funds to help out. In 2004-5 £16,000 was sent from Dronfield to help with projects all round the world.
