Crackdown on Enviro-Crimes by North East Derbyshire District Council

Crackdown on Enviro-Crimes by North East Derbyshire District Council
Irresponsible dog owners and litter louts are among those being targeted in a tough new crackdown to tackle ‘enviro-crimes’ across North East Derbyshire.

Patrols are being stepped up at dog fouling, littering and fly-tipping ‘hot spots’ across the district as part of the new initiative by North East Derbyshire District Council and Derbyshire Police.

Council Enforcement Officers are now taking to the streets with Police Community Support Officers and would-be culprits are warned they will be hit in the pocket with on-the-spot fines as part of the campaign to tackle a range of environmental offences.

Fixed penalty will be issued for offences including:

?          Littering - £80
?          Graffiti and fly-posting - £75
?          Dog fouling - £50

The initiative is being launched as part of Operation Relentless – a six-week police crackdown to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour – and is in support of the council’s ongoing ‘Don’t Stand for It’ campaign to environmental offences.

Cllr Nigel Barker, Member with responsibility for the Environment, said: “Our residents tell us that tackling enviro-crimes – as well as taking action against the culprits – is a high priority for them.

“We’re committed to reducing these offences in North East Derbyshire and, through initiatives like these, will take action against those who pollute our district.”
