There is no prouder man than local butcher, Chris Allen, who established his business on Pentland Road in 1999. With over 20 years' experience and trained by the President of the Yorkshire Butchers' Association, he is the only Scotch Guild Butcher in Derbyshire, and supplier of Scotch Premier Meat, which carries the royal warrant and is supplied to Balmoral Castle and the prestigious Ivy Restaurant.
Range of Meats His range of meats include finest quality Scottish Beef, Isle of Lewis Lamb, Pork and Chicken. He is the only stockist in Derbyshire of fresh Wild Venison, which is available from October to February, and uniquely farmed on the Balmoral Estate and delivered whole to be butchered on site.
Pies and Pastries
His wonderful chunky steak pies, made with only the finest Scottish Beef are baked daily on the premises, along with cornish pasties and sausage rolls. Sold daily are award winning Pork Pies, delivered and cooked fresh. In addition, Chris's home-made Black Pudding and Potted Beef are a constant favourite with customers.
Home Baking
There is no end to Chris's talents and you will find a wonderful range of cakes and scones, baked daily on the premises - from an 8" sponge cake in tempting flavours such as Toffee Apple, Toffee Fudge and Orange & Lemon, tray bakes and small cakes such as Lemon madeira and Farmhouse Fruits, to a fabulous range of scones.
Cheese Selection
A fantastic range of Hartington Cheese is available in various flavours.
Jams, Chutneys & Pickles
Made in the kitchen of a little cottage industry in Congleton, there is a new range of mouth watering, hand-made jams, chutneys and pickles.
Oven Ready Meals
Hearty meals prepared for the oven are available, including Scottish Beef & Real Ale Casserole, Calypso Chicken blended with Mango and white wine, Italian Liver Casserole, Honey Mustard Pork and Chicken and Lamb Bombay Curry. If there isn't enough to tempt you here then sampling his Balmoral Chicken dish is a given, sumptuous chicken fillet stuffed with home-made black pudding in a rich creamy peppercorn sauce - a firm favourite with customers.
As well as sandwiches and coffee available for the lunch-time rush, Chris's new venture is the ultimate in take-away food with his front-of-house smouldering couldron of tempting and tasty daily casseroles, ready for lunch to take out with a ciabatta, or take home and warm up for a quick and hearty tea.
