Castle College Rugby Union Football Club are pleased to announce that season 2005/2006 sees the team playing their Yorkshire South, Merit Table fixtures at a new venue. This is at the Gosforth Sports Fields, situated off Carr Lane, Dronfield Woodhouse, and is the site of the recently demolished Gosforth School.
We are looking forward to this new phase in our long history, next year being the 40th anniversary of the founding of Castle College RUFC.
Although Castle College RUFC have retained the club name, our Rugby no longer has links with the college in Sheffield, and is probably true to say that the links to education are faded memories for the players too! The club has previously based itself at Dore, and for the last ten years, Meadowhead School, staying loyal to the inclusion of core members from the Dronfield area.
Readers may already be aware, that the sports fields have been managed for some time now, by The Gosforth Fields Sports Association, a voluntary group of individuals representing local sports clubs, including AFC Dronfield, and Dronfield Town, junior football clubs, and Dronfield Rugby Union Football Club. Together these three clubs have worked hard to co-ordinate use of the playing fields and provide temporary changing facilities at the site. More permanent plans are in the pipeline. (see web site www.sportdronfield.co.uk). Castle College RUFC are excited to have been invited to subscribe to the above Association, and lend our ‘weight’ to the future development of the project, an invaluable facility for this community.
Castle Rugby would welcome both beginners and more experienced players -please contact captain Pat Anderson on 07789 718606 if you would like to join us.
