Baby Ballet has arrived in Dronfield.  The dance programme for pre-schoolers recently won first place in the ‘Mumpreneur’ contest on Philip and Fern’s ‘This Morning’, and now you and your children can take part in lessons at The Peel Centre on High Street and at The Gladys Buxton Centre.

From six months old, babies and their parents or carers can take part in sessions involving movement to music, instruments, and working with props. And with groups for toddlers and pre-schoolers as well, the syllabus takes into account the children’s age and stage of development.

Founder Claire O’Conner said on the ITV daytime show: "Babyballet promotes fit, active, happy children. Classes promote confidence, coordination, self control and balance.”

Dronfield’s Babyballet teacher Richelle Kenefick, known by the little ones as Miss Richelle, has been teaching dance to four to 16 year-olds for eight years. Richelle, 28, has also worked as a nursery nurse and with youth offenders. “I always wanted a career in dance teaching,” said Richelle, “and I liked the sound of Babyballet because of its fun, easy going approach. “I also wanted to look at moving into a career that would be easier to fit around my own family. “I had my son nearly two years ago and noticed that there wasn’t much out there for new mums and babies to do together. “But we have Dads and carers also coming to Babyballet with girls and boys from 6 months old. “It’s a great social event as well as a way to educate children with music and movement.”

Dronfield Woodhouse mum Penelope Davidson, 29, took her 12-month-old daughter Evangeline along to the first class. “Although Evangeline is a bit too young to follow some of the moves she grinned all the way through the class. She clapped along and will get more out of it each time she goes as she develops. “It was great fun to share the experience together and the older children there were loving doing all the movements and wearing their special Babyballet kit.”
